What's All This Gratitude Stuff?
In the last ten or so years, there has been a great deal of research into actions/behaviors that
have a positive impact on our happiness (or "positive affect" as the literature likes to talk about).
One of the factors several scientists found was that gratitude is tied to happiness. The more
grateful we are, the happier we are. Here are a few links on the subject:
Here are some scientific papers in the field:
Unfortunately, however, it isn't easy to maintain an "attitude of gratitude." The easiest
way may be to maintain a gratitude journal in which, daily, you write down those things
for which you are grateful from the day. In my experience, this actually works very well
but it takes a while to get into the habit (if you're able to establish habits like that
at all) and things often get so busy that it's hard to "remember" how much you have
to be grateful for.
That's where grateful160 comes in. I built it with the sole goal of giving me a little
nudge throughout the day to remind me of how important it is that I remember all the things
for which I'm grateful. It gives me both the "stick" (a quick email or text message from time
to time reminding me to think about it) and the "carrot" (an easy-to-use online gratitude journal
I can revisit any time to review all those things in my life for which I am grateful. And if
that weren't enough, it gives me a tidy "Weekly Gratitude Review" just when I need it (end
of the day on Friday) to remember all the things for which I reported to be grateful from the
previous week.
I hope that it helps you as much as it's helped me remember all the things for which I am
grateful!
Best,
